The key functions of the Debt Directorate are:
- Maintaining a reliable database of all securities issued, loan taken or guaranteed by the Kwara State Government or any of its Agencies and rendering report to the Debt Management Office (DMO), Abuja on quarterly basis.
- Maintaining a reliable database on all contractual debts, pension and gratuity arrears etc. and rendering report to the Debt Management Office (DMO), Abuja on quarterly basis.
- Maintaining a reliable database on all debt or refunds due to the State Government.
- Preparing and submitting to the State Government, a forecast of loans service obligation of the current fiscal year.
- Participating in negotiations aimed at achieving an efficient management of the State Debt obligation at a level compatible with the desired economic activities for growth and general development of the State.
- Advising Government on the restructuring and refinancing of all debt obligations.
- Carrying out any other functions delegated to the department by the superior authority.
