The Directorate of Planning is saddled with the following cabinet responsibilities to ensure effectiveness in line with the directive of the Kwara State Government.

      • To formulate and prepare the long-term, medium-term and short-term development plans of the State and Local Government within the framework of the national objectives and priorities and transmit same to the National Planning Commission.
      • To advise the State Chief Executive on areas where the national planning objectives and priorities are being seriously hampered or violated at the State or Local Government.
      • To prevail, with the approval of the State Chief Executive, on the Ministry of Finance not to release funds for projects that have not been properly approved in the state Plan and State Medium-Term Strategic Plan (MTSS) and annual budget or project for which there is a lack of adequate information on their implementation status.
      • To ensure consistency of the State plan (Medium-Term Strategic Sector Plan) (MTSS) and the Annual Budget through issuing appropriate circulars setting out broad guidelines for the preparation of the current and capital expenditures of the State, including prescribing budget ceilings.
      • To co-ordinate all matters relating to multilateral and bilateral economic co-operation, including development aid and technical assistance programs or projects with external financing components.
      • To undertake periodic reviews and appraisal of the man power resources capabilities of the State with a view to advancing their development, efficiency and effective utilization, and
      • To liaise from time to time with the National Planning Commission on general economic matters and ensure attendance at the meetings of the joint Planning Board, the National Council on Development Planning and the National Economic Council.
    As indicated in the organizational chart, the Directorate is sub-divided into the following three Divisions to enhance its operational effectiveness:

    • Macro, Production
    • Consultancy, Manpower Planning
    • Macro and Production Division
